1st Annual Paddy Dakar Rally – September 24th, 25th & 26th, 2010. Village of Doon, Co Limerick. Course will be set in Sliabh Felim Mountains.
The plan is to raise money for Down Syndrome Ireland through this event and highlight the Irish Dakar Riders past and present. The Dakar is the last rally of its kind in the world and Ireland has had 4 riders finish the Rally. It’s also the most dangerous with 48 deaths since its inception in 1978.
The turnout is going to be massive as Philip Noone (Dakar 2010 finisher) Andrew Reeves, Gary Ennis (Dakar 2009) and Alan Graham will be attending with Andrew Reeves riding a works BMW GS in the event and helping on the day.
The 111km course is aimed at people who ride adventure bikes and who have not been in any kind of competition. It’s going to be orienteering on motorbikes, but in off-road conditions on road rubber. Within 10 minutes, we expect that riders will be up on their pegs enjoying this unique xperience. It will give riders very basic idea of what it is like to do a Dakar with emphasis on way-points, going from checkpoint to checkpoint.
